Torque wrench calibration in Bristol
A torque wrench is a measuring instrument that happens to be shaped like a hand tool, and it is the only thing in the workshop that goes out of specification without telling you. It carries on clicking. It just stops clicking at the number on the handle.
Drift comes from ordinary use — a drop off a bench, storage left wound up, or simply a few years of work. Nothing about the tool announces it, which is why the first anybody usually knows is a wheel that has come loose, a head gasket that has not held, or an inspector asking a question nobody can answer.
We calibrate on our own bench at Kingsland Road and issue the certificate with it. That covers the Norbar ranges we supply, which come back to us through their working life, and it covers plenty of equipment we did not sell — whoever the wrench came from, it can come here.
If you are signing off wheel torques, cambelts, head bolts, suspension or anything a warranty claim might later be built on, the certificate is the part that matters. It is the difference between saying the job was done to specification and being able to show it.

Calibration Services — questions we get asked
Do you calibrate wrenches you did not supply?
Yes. Whoever sold it, it can come to our bench. We calibrate the Norbar ranges we supply and a good deal of equipment we did not.
How often does a torque wrench need calibrating?
It depends how hard it works, and the manufacturer will give a figure. The practical answer is that a wrench which has been dropped, stored under tension or used for a few years without a check should be treated as an opinion rather than a measurement until it has been on a bench.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes, issued with the wrench when it goes back.
What else can you calibrate?
Ring us with what you have. Alongside torque equipment we service and certificate a range of workshop equipment — see garage equipment repairs.
