Jacks & Hydraulics at Pomphrey
The lifting and supporting equipment a workshop touches every single day: trolley jacks, bottle jacks, air-hydraulic jacks, transmission and gearbox jacks, jacking beams, axle stands, workshop presses and engine cranes.
It is also the equipment most likely to be bought on price and regretted. A trolley jack that is rated for two tonnes but built to a budget will creep, and a jack that creeps under a car is not a nuisance, it is an accident. Capacity is only half of it — minimum height decides whether it goes under a lowered car at all, and maximum height decides whether the wheels ever leave the ground. Both figures are on every card in this range for exactly that reason.
Hydraulic equipment is worth repairing far more often than people assume. Rams, pumps, beams and presses come into the workshop, get stripped, resealed and tested before they go back, which is usually a fraction of replacing them and keeps equipment that was built properly in service. If something is sinking, leaking or lifting slowly, ask before you scrap it.

What we do for this equipment
The same company that supplies it keeps it working. These service lines apply to everything on this page.
Jacks & Hydraulics — questions we get asked
What do the minimum and maximum height figures mean?
Minimum height is how far the jack collapses, which decides whether it will go under a lowered car at all. Maximum height is how far it lifts, which decides whether the wheels leave the ground once it is under. Both are on every card in this range because capacity alone will not tell you whether a jack fits your work.
Is a hydraulic jack or ram worth repairing?
Usually, yes. Rams, pumps, beams and presses are stripped, resealed and tested here, which is normally a fraction of replacing them. If something is sinking, leaking or lifting slowly, ask before you scrap it — see hydraulic repairs.
Why does a cheap trolley jack not last?
Because the rating is a peak figure, not a working one. Budget jacks creep under sustained load, and a jack that creeps under a car is not an inconvenience. Axle stands are not optional either, whatever the jack cost.
Do you supply axle stands and jacking beams too?
Yes, they are in this range alongside the jacks, along with workshop presses and engine cranes.
