MOT Bays
Class 4 and Class 7 ATL bays, gas and smoke analysers and ancillary packs.
MOT Bays at Pomphrey
Class 4 and Class 7 ATL bay equipment, along with the exhaust gas analysers, diesel smoke meters, headlamp aligners and play detectors that go with them.
An MOT bay is not a shopping list so much as a layout problem. The brake tester, the lift or pit, the play detector, the headlamp beam setter and the space to open a door all have to coexist in a bay that also has to be worked in, and the order they go in matters as much as what you buy. Class 7 adds the length and the weight of vans on top.
This is the range where it is worth talking to somebody before ordering anything. We have fitted these bays around Bristol and the South West for years, we install and commission the equipment, and we keep it running afterwards. Where a piece of equipment needs calibrating or certificating through its life, that happens through us as well.

What we do for this equipment
The same company that supplies it keeps it working. These service lines apply to everything on this page.
MOT Bays — questions we get asked
What is the difference between Class 4 and Class 7?
Class 4 covers cars and light vans; Class 7 covers heavier goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Class 7 needs the extra length and the extra capacity through the brake tester and the lift, so it is worth deciding before you lay a bay out rather than after.
What goes into an ATL bay?
Broadly a roller brake tester, a lift or pit, a play detector, a headlamp beam setter, and the emissions equipment for the classes you test — a gas analyser for petrol, a smoke meter for diesel. Getting them to coexist in a workable bay is the real job.
Can you help lay the bay out?
Yes, and it is the part worth talking about first. We have fitted these bays around Bristol and the South West for years, and the order things go in matters as much as what you buy.
Who keeps the equipment calibrated afterwards?
We do, for equipment we supply, alongside the rest of our service work.
